Summer Eats

Summer is just around the corner... so I figured I should post some healthy snack options that will lessen the amount of time you have to spend in the gym to get bikini ready. :-P

Homemade Salsa Ingredients

1 small red onion diced

1 1/2 large tomatos diced

1 small jalapeno

1/2 cup chopped cilantro

Juice of one lime

a tiny pinch of salt and pepper

a dash of chili seasoning (optional)

Mix all these ingredients together.

Homemade Chips Ingredients

Pita Bread

Cut slices of whole wheat pita bread into wedges and bake them in the oven until crispy.

Spring Accessories: Must Haves

1.Braided Belt
2. Sunglasses
3. Beach tote
4. Colorful Clutch
5. Sandals
5. Hats

Make up 101: Don'ts

1. Do not pile on eyeliner, it makes you look scary. Instead wear a simple cat eye, it gives the face a nice refined look.

2. Do not line your lips with black liner, your lip liner should always match your lipstick.

3. Do not cake on foundation, it makes you look like you are wearing a horrible mask. Put a light layer of foundation or a light layer of powered, there is no need to pile on layers of make up.

4. Do not overly fill in your eyebrows, it takes away from the rest of your face. Instead slightly fill in your eye brows by smudging eye shadow or an eye brow pencil into your brow. Make sure the color matches perfectly with your eye brows.

5.Do not use an excessive amount of blush. When applying blush make sure you tap out the excess powered on your brush, if you put on to much blush you can always wipe some off with a napkin.

6. Do not wear foundation that is not the shade of your skin. I always have someone assist me at a MAC store.

7. Do not wear all the colors in your new eyeshadow palette all at once. Instead blend a few colors that compliment each other.

Outfit of the Day

Prints and neutral colors go great together...I don't suggest wearing alot of black in the spring but you can always add color to an outfit by wearing a bright red lipstick or bright nailpolish. I LOVE this look!

Prepare for the Worst
.....

Spring Braided

Here are some quick and easy hairstyles for spring.

1. Part hair down the middle...braid a small chunk of hair on the left side and secure it with a bobby pin. (do the same thing to the right side)

2.Part your hair to the side. Braid a big piece of hair on the side of your head with more hair, make sure you only braid your hair half way. using a hair tie pull the hair back into a side ponytail.

3.Part your hair down the middle, braid a piece of hair on the right side of you head and secure with a bobby pin.

3. Pull your hair to the side and create a messy side plait secure with a hair tie.

Breakfast to go Plzz

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! I sometimes eat breakfast foods for dinner and lunch.. here's a quick easy recipe for a breakfast burrito that takes about 5mins to prepare.

Ingredients
Tortillas (Flour, Wheat, Spinach it really doesn't matter)
2 Eggs
Diced Onions
Diced Tomatoes
Spinach
Seasoning
Morningstar Bacon (you can use real bacon if you want)
Lettuce
Grated cheese

Step 1. Warm the Tortilla(s)
Step 2. Cook Bacon until crispy
Step 3. to make scrambled eggs add onions, tomatoes, and spinach, makes sure the eggs are seasoned well.
Step 4. Add the cooked eggs, bacon, cheese and lettuce to the burrito, roll up the burrito and enjoy!

Pum Pum Shorts: Demin Style

I was browsing the internet today and I came across a pair of denim shorts for $98....ummm that's pretty much ridiculous when you can make your own for "free" in 4 simple steps!

Materials
Old Jeans
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil

Step 1. Find a pair of old jeans that still fits.
Step 2. Using a ruler make a faint pencil line a bit lower then how short you want the jeans to be.
Step 3. Cut off the legs.
Step 4. Pull on the loose strings to give the jeans a frayed look.

Step 5. If you want to distress the pockets you can use a steak knife to cut tiny slits or using sand paper... sand the pockets of the jeans until you get the desired look (optional)

Outfit of The Day

A great way to wear denim is to pair it with florals. DO NOT wear denim with denim....it looks tacky. (you can find these pieces at Forever 21 or Love Culture)

Polka Dot Galore: Nail Art

Spring is here so patterns and bright colors are in... Why not apply the same Spring/ Summer color and pattern trends to your nails???

Step 1. Paint your nails any color you want.
Step 2. Allow your nail polish to dry completely (Add a second coat of polish if needed)
Step 3. Use a toothpick or a tiny brush to make evenly spaced little Polka dots (make sure you do not get too much nail polish on the brush).

High or Low....Which way do you go??

High end vs Low end make-up products. Everyone loves MAC products, but lets face it MAC is a little pricey. I personally don't want to spend $15 for a funky color eye shadow that I'm probably going to wear twice a year. So here are some alternatives......

1. Elf products are very inexpensive, but that doesn't mean they don't work. Elf is a good alternative to high end make-up, I personally think the eye shadows, eyeliner, and lip gloss works just as well as MAC products. Products start at $1.00. (http://www.eyeslipsface.com/)

2. NYC is another good alternative to high end makeup. The palettes are really pigmented and the lip colors go on really bright. Products start at $ 0.99. (http://www.newyorkcolor.com/products/eyes)

3. NYX I've never tried these products but I read a lot of reviews saying that its really good. (http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/products)

I do recommend MAC powder, foundation, and concealer it's worth the price. Most low end foundations and powder wear off after a few hours, the color range generally suck, and it leaves skin feeling oily. I hope this post helps!

Shopping 101....Must Haves

1 Everyone looks good in a stylish jacket, wearing one makes you look like you put a lot of effort into your outfit even if you didn't.

2. Finding a versatile black dress is important, It is great for parties and office wear; it never goes out of style.

3. Jeans: This is a piece that should be in EVERY wardrobe. Find a simple pair that looks good on you. You can always dress jeans up by wearing a button down, with heels, and a blazer.

4. Basic shirts are important to have, make sure you have white, black, and gray camis, tank tops, and long sleeve shirts.

5.Classic Heels are a must, go for solid colors such as black, gray, and nude.

6. Blazer: you can dress it up or down. It's great for layering with a t-shirt and jeans but also to wear to the office.

7. Button down Blouse can be worn with jeans for a casual day, with a blazer to the office, or with a sweater and skirt to create a preppy look.

8. Flats aren't my favorite fashion trend but they are important to have on the days you don't feel like wearing 6 inch heels but still need to dress semi-formal.

9.Tights can be worn with shorts, skirts, jeans, and dresses.

10. A pencil skirt is a good piece to have. You can always wear it to the office or pair it with a cami for a casual look.

Whats in your closet?? Does it pass the shopping 101 test? hmmmm.

Hot...Damn!

To get through those blazing hot summer days all you need is a strawberry banana smoothie...It's super healthy and really good!

Ingredients
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1 1/2 frozen bananas cut into pieces
1/4 cup of soy milk (maybe even less...you can also use fruit juice)
Honey (If it's not sweet enough add a teaspoon of honey)

Steps
1. Add Frozen strawberries and bananas into the blender with a splash of soy milk.
2. Blend (keep shaking the blender to make sure the fruits are blended well, add more soy milk if needed)
3. Enjoy...and Share :-)

Straight Hurr Routine

To get my hair super straight I follow these steps.

Step 1. I shampoo and condition my hair with Sunsilk straighten up, if you can't find it in stores you can also use L'oreal Vive Pro hydra gloss (the one in the yellow bottle).

Step 2. Untangle you hair while wet

Step 3. Let your hair completely air dry. You can use a blow drier if you want.

Step 4. Spray your hair with heat protection (this is very important)

Step 5. Part your hair into little sections, the smaller the section the less time it will take to straighten.

Step 6. Coat the piece of hair with hair polish (I use Argon Oil or Fantasia in the pink bottle)

Step 7. Flat iron each piece of hair after coating it with polish.

I'll post pictures later =)

Show a Little Skin: Off the Shoulder Tees

I really love off the shoulder shirts but they aren't necessarily always in season...so I figured out how to make my everyday t-shirts off the shoulder....It only takes Three simple steps!!!

Materials
T-shirts (baby tee or Adult tee )
Scissors
Pencil (optional)

1. Folder the t-shirt in 1/2 vertically
2. Trace a Pencil line along the collar....cut the collar off neatly
3. Try on the shirt to make sure it fits properly....you can always go back and cut more of the collar off if it doesn't fit right.

Custom Colors: Mixing Nail polish

Doesn't it make you mad when you see a shade of nail polish that you want... but you never find it in the store..or if you do find it..it is always a shade darker or lighter... Well, I have a solution for you... mix your own nail polish!!! Its really easy..but I suggest you buy cheap nail polish such as NYC or Wet and Wild...that way if you create a super yucky funky color you can always throw it away.

Materials
Nail polish (preferably Wet and Wild or NYC)
Old Nail polish (you don't wear anymore or ones that are starting to dry up)

Step 1. Choose colors that compliment each other. Example Black + White=Gray, Red+ Blue= Purple, Dark Red + Light Red= Med Red, Green+Blue+Yellow= Turquoise. DONT BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT...Believe me someone out there will like the color.

Step 2. Make sure the nail polish bottles are about 1/2 way full to allow mixing. If not you will have to buy empty nail polish bottles or pour some color out.

Step 3. Use the lighter color as the base Example: If I'm making gray, white will be used as the base.

Step 4. Pour a few drops of the darker color into the base.

Step 5. Shake the nail posh bottle....until the color is completely mixed.

Step 6. Keep adding more drops of the darker color to the base until you get the desired color!

=)

Tip: Keep nail polish in the refrigerator to keep it from drying out.
